Near the finishing line

July 22, 2025

Hey everyone ! It's Monday the day 21st of July and I am currently on annual leave , whoop !

I have about 8 weeks left till I qualify and there is a mixture of excitement and inadequacy ; mostly excitment. I am currently on a surgical ward for my last few weeks and tell me why I kinda like it ? I know I am a self proclaimed "medical girlie" but I must say its looking like these last few weeks will be better than I had expected. I am working on a urology and general surgery ward. I am finishing my internship on the first ward I ever did placement on as a little first year so its a very full circle moment for me !

Is anyone coming to the end of their internship/studies and feeling like they are not quite ready yet for the real world but at the same time you can't wait to just get stuck in ? Same girl , same :) The last four yerars have been praparing me for this , get behind me imposter syndrome.

My plan is to actually take a nice long break before I start working in my big girl job (eek!) , I want to travel and enjoy very well first (and forever amen). However I shall keep you guys updated , If the ward I really want is asking me to start sooner then I most definately will.

As I come to the end of my internship I often find myself reflecting on how far I have to go instead of how far I have already come. I have big dreams for my career , big dreams for nurses in Ireland and big dreams for the Irish Healthcare System but I must walk before I can run and I must remember to celebrate the little victories every step of the way.

If you are like me I encourage you to take a minute out of your day to pat yourself on the back. You are not where you want to be but you are not where you once were and that is worth celebrating. Congratulations you , I am rooting for you !

"And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns." - Philippians 1:6 , our anchor verse
